Can These Letterpress Printing Products Be Used For Foil Stamping?

Our letterpress printing plates come in a variety of thicknesses and reliefs that when mounted on a metal base can be used for hot foil stamping. The letterpress printing blocks for sale here can not be used for hot foil stamping because they are mounted on wood and wood will not transfer the heat to the plate.

We have plates available for stock designs and custom orders that available in 3 different thicknesses and reliefs for hot foil stamping. Plates or dies come unmounted to use as is or mount on a metal base or block to meet the specific height requirement of your hot foil stamping machine.

16 gauge plates
Thin gauge magnesium is what all of our letterpress printing blocks are made from. It is 16 gauge and is approximately .066" thick. The shoulder depth is approximately .030". (Each of my plates can vary from .063" - .067" thick and have a relief of between 0.030" - 0.035").

11 pt. plates
The deeper gauge of magnesium (11pt. plates) is approximately .153" thick. The shoulder depth is approximately .080". (Each of my plates can vary from .150" - .155" thick and have a relief of between 0.077" - 0.083"). Deeper impression plates are better suited for hot foil stamping, debossing, wax seals and some of the more simple designs are good for leather stamping.

1/4" plates
The deepest gauge of magnesium (1/4" plates) is approximately .250" thick. The shoulder depth is approximately .100". (Each of my plates can vary from .248" - .255" thick and have a relief of between 0.095" - 0.103"). Deeper impression plates are best suited and mostly used for leather stamping.
